Gar-Field finishes in 6th place in Northwest Regional

(2/17/08) Gar-Field will send two wrestlers to the states this weekend after placing 6th in the Northwest Regional tournament at Woodbridge high school this past weekend. Gar-Field finished with a team total 69.5 points. Colonial Forge won the tournament with 275 points.

Gar-Field was hoping to have three wrestlers crowned the Northwest champions in their weight class on Saturday afternoon. It was not to be. Gar-Field's big three, Ray Dickerson (135LBS.), Porker Bowers (171LBS.), and Stephen Young (285LBS.) only had 3-losses between them all year. They totaled 4 on Saturday.

Ray Dickerson got pinned in his second match of the day and then lost by injury default in his last match finishing 6th overall in the 135lb. weight class. Porker Bowers also lost by injury default early in the day, but came back to win his last two matches finishing third earning a trip to states at 171lbs. Stephen Young made it to the championship match in the heavyweight class losing a major decision to Fauquier's Nick Cook 13-5. Cook was simply to big and strong for Gar-Field's Young whose true weight is around 245lbs.
